#3 You Belong With Me
Once again, hello everyone! I am so happy to write to all of you again. This song that I am going to be analyzing is one of my favorite songs from Taylor swift. I feel like this song gives everyone a very good message, it also makes some of the audience feel connected to this song.
The tone of this song is hopeful and romantic. The speaker of this song is Taylor swift, She wrote this song with the purpose of talking about a love story. In this love story, the boy does not get much attention from his girlfriend, as it were, the girl is just using him to make herself more popular. This boy is blindly in love with this girl, he does not realize that the right girl is in front of him and she is genuinely in love with him. In this song, Taylor talks about how she is the one that knows how he is feeling, what he likes, and she knows his whole story. She wants him to know that she is the right girl for him. The boy is a football player, the girlfriend is a cheerleader, and Taylor is just a normal girl that doesn't physically look like every other girl, she dresses differently and she does not like any sports. The audience of this song is just the boy, when Taylor gets to the point that she feels that she needs to express herself, she writes this song to him. The moment that she realizes that the boy and his girlfriend are arguing about something, she decides is the right time to express herself and talk about the situation. Finally she send the message through the song and she decides to go to prom, she dressed nice and when he saw her, he immediately fell in love with her. At the end he realize that all this time his love was right in front of him.
"You Belong With Me"
You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset
She's going off about something that you said'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do
I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday nightI'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't likeAnd she'll never know your story like I do
But she wears short skirtsI wear T-shirtsShe's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachersDreaming about the day when you wake up and findThat what you're looking for has been here the whole time
If you could see that I'm the oneWho understands youBeen here all alongSo, why can't you see?You belong with meYou belong with me
Walk in the streets with you in your worn-out jeansI can't help thinking this is how it ought to beLaughing on a park bench thinking to myselfHey, isn't this easy?
And you've got a smileThat can light up this whole townI haven't seen it in a whileSince she brought you downYou say you're fine, I know you better than thatHey, what you doing with a girl like that?
She wears high heelsI wear sneakersShe's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachersDreaming about the day when you wake up and findThat what you're looking for has been here the whole time
If you could see that I'm the oneWho understands youBeen here all alongSo, why can't you see?You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your backdoorAll this time how could you not know, baby? You belong with meYou belong with me
Oh, I remember you driving to my houseIn the middle of the nightI'm the one who makes you laughWhen you know you're 'bout to cryAnd I know your favorite songsAnd you tell me 'bout your dreamsThink I know where you belongThink I know it's with me
Can't you see that I'm the oneWho understands you?Been here all alongSo, why can't you see?You belong with me
Standing by and waiting at your backdoorAll this time how could you not know, baby? You belong with meYou belong with me
You belong with meHave you ever thought just maybeYou belong with me?You belong with me
HI dania, I really liked the way you analyzed this song. This is a catchy one and I did not know the backstory before reading your blog. I feel that some of the audience can relate to being mislead in situations like this because of what they feel.
ReplyDeleteHello Dania! I love the way you explained and analyzed this song. The way you explained the song really helped me understand the song better, along with understanding why you like the song. I definitely have been there.
ReplyDeleteHi! I really enjoyed reading your analyzation of this song. I remember listening to this song all the time as a child. I was clueless to the deeper meaning behind the song other than the chorus. So, reading your analysis was pretty nostalgic. - Fatima Alshareh
